The new year is here and while the gaming world is mourning the loss of E3, 2024 has plenty of exciting news for gamers. Especially for those in the military genre, where gaming culture runs deep. While real war isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, military video games provide the thrill of adventure without the risk of actual decapitation or trench foot.
So here at Military News Today, we thought we’d take a look at the best military and video games in 2024 (in our opinion, that is!).
Military video games have been a phenomenon for over two decades and with the event of online gaming community and gaming championships, not only has this gained a huge following in the civilian world, the military world has got on board in a huge way! Armed forces units across the globe even have their own official gaming teams that compete like we have Army, Air Force & Navy football teams!
Military branches across the globe have joined the evolution of entering tournaments both within and outside of the military community, with real opportunities of winning huge cash prizes and of course the bragging rights which we all know in the military we love so much.
At the heart of gaming tournaments and online gaming is of course military video games such as Halo & Call of Duty.
2024 is shaping up to be quite an impressive year for gaming. There are many different titles available across all genres, but we’re looking at the best military video games to keep a look out for in 2024:
So lets kick off the top five at number five…
#5: Pacific Drive
Just like for many active-duty military members, learning to survive in the Pacific Northwest is the premise of one of the highly anticipated titles in 2024. In fact, Pacific Drive has many ominous elements that you’ll need to survive in your vehicle and on foot as you try to escape the evil that lurks outside. Upgrade and customise your vehicle as you drive to survive.
#4: Sons of the Forest
The sequel to the 2014 title The Forest is finally here! Sons of the Forest is another survival video game that is unlike any other you’ve played before. So far, the reviews are near perfect. Build and customise weapons and buildings while surviving an island full of cannibals as part of a group of hired military contractors. This military video game allows you to play co-op with up to eight, using communication as a key for success. As an added bonus, the map is four times the size of the original.
#3: John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando
An awesome 80’s anthem from Bon Jovi, hordes of demonic-looking beasts, a dark, dreary world, and all of the shooting and exploding your heart can desire. Is John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando the most original of the best upcoming video games in 2024? Absolutely not, but we’re thinking based on the tried and true formula from past titles that that’s not really a bad thing. Military video games crossed with shoot ’em-up horror vibes.
#2: Delta Force: Hawk Ops
As a free first-person shooter, Delta Force: Hawk Ops allows you to team up with friends to complete missions while saving the world. There are tons of items available, including weapons, of course, as well as a variety of operator types. On top of a promising campaign, multiplayer modes are helping solidify the title as a well-rounded offering. It’ll be hard for military video games in 2024 to get better than this!
#1: Call Of Duty 2024
You don’t mention military video games and leave out one of the most iconic franchises in all of video gaming history. While there is still a lot of mystery surrounding the next instalment in COD, the rumours are pointing to a return to the Black Ops series. This time, the setting is expected to take place during the Gulf War with Treyarch at the helm.
