ONE OF THE SOUTH-WESTS BIGGEST AND FREE EVENTS IS RETURNING IN 2024

The RAF Red Arrows are set to fly at Teignmouth Airshow, in Devon.

Run by a team of volunteers, the airshow will take place on Saturday 6th July.

Bosses confirmed the airshow would include the Red Arrows, RAF Typhoon and RAF Lancaster.

They added the event – which was founded in 2019 – attracted about 30,000 visitors each year and was a “highlight in the local calendar”.

‘Unforgettable memories’

Volunteer chairman, Dave Matthews, said: “I’m blown away that we’ve managed to secure them [Red Arrows] for a third year running.

“We never dreamt that this would have been possible when our volunteers began this journey… I’m over the moon that Teignmouth will once again be a display location.”

David Cook, volunteer accounts director, said: “Operating costs are expected to be in the region of £90,000 to host the four-day event, of which £40,000 goes towards the aircraft displays which provide unforgettable memories for locals and visitors alike.

“At this current time we are still short of the overall target needed so the committee is working hard to secure additional event sponsorship and funding”.

This airshow is probably like no other in the UK, unlike the well established airshows across the country such as RIAT, Bournemouth Air Show & Farnborough International Air Show, this event was founded and still run by total novices! Dont let that put you off though, despite having zero experience of organising an Airshow, this didn’t stop this dedicated (and slightly bonkers) committee from giving it a go, aside from the obvious lack of aviation experience they more than make up for it in other ways.

The team have a varied skill set, with specialties lying in event management, marketing, people management, construction, logistics, and above all a fantastic knowledge of our local area and the people living in Devon!

They are also supported by local businesses who have stepped in to offer their services over the years when something more specialised is required.

Welcome to Teignmouth Airshow in Devon – Europe’s unique aviation event! A once impossible dream, that became reality in 2019, Teignmouth Airshow is funded by the community, for the community thanks to their supporters and sponsors. All proceeds go back into making each year’s event better. From humble beginnings with seven volunteers, it has grown with the support of their community. Together, they showed that amazing things happen when you work as one.
